Counseling at Meadowlark

The Medowlark School focuses on creating balance in education - social, emotional, physical and academic learning will be embedded daily.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

A balanced education means providing direct instruction and guided practice to teach students the skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary to handle life’s normal tasks and unexpected surprises. BVSD has partnered with the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) to proactively teach self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making.

Meadowlark School has developed a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program that teaches, reinforces and rewards positive, responsible behaviors. The proactive approach to social and emotional learning includes regular instruction in social skills, practice in real-world settings and personalized support as needed.

Physical Learning

Daily, active movement is embedded into our core program for all students and staff. All students are actively engaged in movement throughout the school day. In addition to physical education classes and school-sponsored sports, students and their teachers have planned breaks with fun, rigorous activities.

We have Exercise Learning Centers in each of our five learning communities so students who need more movement have an immediate opportunity. Physical movement has many proven, positive effects on health, attitude and academic learning.

Academic Learning

Providing challenging, meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for students is the heart of the BVSD vision and is the core foundation of Meadowlark. Students are taught how to take the lead in their own learning. Teaching teams are facilitators and coaches as students move through the BVSD curriculum and develop their own guiding questions that interest and challenge their learning.
