The Boulder Valley School District is one of just two Metro Denver school districts to earn Accredited with Distinction, the Colorado Department of Education’s highest honor — and the only district to earn the designation three years in a row.

This summer, the BVSD leadership team worked to evaluate options, including school closures, consolidations, reconfigurations and relocations. Analyzing enrollment trends, building capacity, facility conditions and long-term students needs, they weighed the potential challenges and possibilities.

Today, our team presented the following recommendations to the Board of Education.

Next week, the Board of Education will have its first opportunity to consider and discuss specific school adjustments aimed at making our school district more resilient in this time of declining enrollment. The proposed adjustments will include school closures, consolidations, and reconfigurations. The worksession will be held Aug. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Education Center and will be broadcast live on BVSD’s YouTube channel.

Our leadership team has worked diligently to evaluate options involving potential school consolidations, closures and reconfigurations. They have analyzed enrollment trends, building capacity, facility conditions and the long-term student needs. They weighed the potential consequences of many possibilities and challenged our own thinking. Now, our team is preparing to present our recommendation, reasoning, and next steps of the process to the Board of Education on August 25.

Each and every child expects and deserves to attend a school where everything possible is done to ensure the halls are safe and that a sense of belonging is fostered in the classrooms.

I am reaching out to you today to share the steps we are taking here in the Boulder Valley School District as we continue to endeavor to reach this goal, while also acknowledging that we have fallen short of our ideals.
